IT'S ABOUT CHOICE

In recent years in Scotland, the conduct and traditions observed at funeral services have changed with a distinct move towards “Celebrations of Life” that are constructed to encompass the essence of life and personality of the person being remembered.

Also today, many people are not members of any of the established churches and feel uncomfortable approaching a member of the clergy to conduct a funeral service, in particular if their loved one had not attended church for many years.

Some people are also not comfortable with a full traditional religious service but, at the same time, wish a funeral with some form of religious input (hymns, scripture readings, prayers) that reflects the beliefs their love one may have held, although not a regular church attendee.

Others may, of course, wish a completely non-religious service. Click here to contact Alan Saunderson and discuss your requirements.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT?

STRUCTURE

Unlike a secular ceremony, hymns, scripture readings and prayers can be included. Also, favourite music can be played.

If you would like friends and family to take part (to read a poem or deliver a eulogy) this can also be accommodated.

The ceremony could take place entirely at the cemetery or crematorium, or it could begin at another location, for example, your home or the Funeral Director's service room.

The service may take place at the Funeral Director's service room, crematorium chapel, graveside or, as is becoming more popular, a hotel or community hall.

The funeral outline will be discussed and settled upon when Alan visits your home. There will be deep, ongoing and thorough communication with your family. Alan will also provide you with a draft tribute of the eulogy a few days before the service to ensure that all information is accurate.
